Welcome to
100ships, a multifandom challenge comm where the aim is to create 100 different fanworks featuring 100 different relationships.

All types & categories of ships are welcome. There are no claims and no time limit on the challenge. Just copy the table to somewhere convenient and get started.
This is shamelessly based on
100fandoms and
51pluscrossoverfandoms (writing challenges), but all fanworks are welcome.
You don't need a Dreamwidth account. There is an AO3 collection for posting, and anon commenting is on here for any questions & announcing completion. If you want an account in order to post, it's free to sign-up.
Anyone who completes the challenge will receive a banner.
Rules
1. Copy/post the table to somewhere convenient to you, create fanworks for each prompt and have fun multi-shipping. There are no minimums and maximums. As long as your work is complete and comprehensible and visible/audible, it counts. You can write in any language (although the info in the linking post here should be in English).
2. Be kind. No hatespeech, harassment, trolling or ship/character bashing. (If writing RPF, please be sensitive - i.e. avoid non-famous/underage living people or serial killers/war criminals etc. current/within living memory etc.)
3. Post your work wherever you usually do and link back here to the work. Please use header info (e.g. Creator, Pairing, Fandom, Title, ratings, Summary, Notes/Warnings & prompt used). There's a template below, but you can use the AO3 share feature instead or any similar formatting that you prefer.
You can add existing fandom and prompt tags to your entry when posting. Mods will create new tags for you as needed.

Guidelines
♥ All types, ratings, categories of ships are welcome, romantic, platonic, queerplatonic, slash, femslash, het, poly, gen, familial, friendship, canonical, non-canonical, crossover, crack, rare pairs, randomised pairings, juggernauts, RPF, etc. etc.. It's up to you!
♥ Each fill must be created for the challenge and focus on a different ship using a different combination of canon characters each time. You can't create for the same character combination twice, even if one is platonic and the other romantic, or the second is an AU.
♥ You can ship canon characters with OCs if you choose, although only once per character (i.e. you can write A/OC, but not also A/Another OC or A/OC/OC, but you can use B/OC, C/OC.) Minor characters, mentioned/implied characters or widely accepted in the fandom fanon/canon OCs count as regular canonical characters.
♥ Same-actor character combinations are fine and count as different pairings, as do canonical alternate versions of characters. (A/B and A/B's Evil Clone count as separate ships, as does A/B, A/B's Evil Clone/B.) Versions of characters across adaptations would count as separate.
♥ Approach the table however you want - write any mix of pairings you like! You could combine it with
100fandoms and write your 100 OTPs from 100 different fandoms, or 100 pairings from one fandom, 100 crossover pairings, 100 randomly generated pairings or requests, 100 different pairings involving your favourite character, or your OTP + 99 different additional poly options, or any sort of variation you please. It's up to you.
♥ Prompts can be interpreted as widely as you choose, and you can combine them with any other prompts, challenges, fests, bingos you like (as long as the other fest also allows it).

Table code for claims:
♥ Part of the fun of challenges like these is working through the same prompts together, but if a prompt or prompts is distressing to you or you would prefer some creator's choice options, you can just replace it/them. (Up to 10 max.)
The prompts are taken from colour names, so select a new one from a colour list like this. Swap the prompt(s) out on your table before you start writing, and stick to the swapped version you've chosen. (Don't forget to check you haven't picked a duplicate prompt!)
When posting fills written for swapped prompts use the tag: "prompt: creator's choice".
If you have any other queries, please ask here or contact the mod via PM. Anon commenting is on.

Date: 2022-05-19 07:17 pm (UTC)I've included some magical objects or relics (Time Stone, Cloak of Levitation). But I was thinking, what about non-magical objects, more abstract concepts, anything like that - say, Dean/Impala or Agent Cooper/Coffee. Would those count as crack ships (or maybe not crack!)? Only the Impala - more or less a canon character - and not Coop's love affair with coffee? Question partly inspired by the prompt coffee, partly by this icon (sadly not by me!).
If they don't really fit the challenge, I'll reconsider or simply continue on my own. The prompts (obviously) work really well for icons, but colour prompts are also almost a new challenge for me. My focus would usually be a specific scene, cap, crop, texture, desaturated or b/w icons. It's interesting to work with colours (or adjectives or nouns - or verbs!). Sorry, this comment ended up a bit long!

lol! Basically, I am fine with inanimate object ships for the challenge, so if you want to use them, go right ahead. As long as you feel happy with counting them as unique ships and the inanimate object in question is there in canon (as you say, with these ones), I think that's fine - that kind of thing is very much up to each participant, really. Good luck with the rest! <3

Date: 2022-11-17 11:54 pm (UTC)Re: Question
Date: 2022-11-18 08:37 am (UTC)If they're solely your OCs, then, for this particular challenge, you can ship Canon Character A/Your OC, Canon Character B/Your OC, but not OC/OC and once you've written A/OC or B/OC, you can't write another OC-related ship for A or B to count for 100ships, although you can still write C/OC, D/OC etc.
But if they are OC or very borderline canon characters that your fandom tends to treat as canon (player characters, characters mentioned but not seen, OCs widely accepted/shared across that fandom etc.), then I leave that up to people in the fandom (and who know how that specific fandom tends to regard them) to make the call. So, if they fall into that category, it's up to you to decide how you treat them for this challenge.
I hope that makes sense?
The challenge for this comm is to come up with 100 different ships for canon characters, so use of OCs is very limited here. (Which is nothing against them - I have a lot of my own OCs! It's just that the intent is to encourage canon multi-shipping - and have fun.)

Date: 2022-12-09 12:32 pm (UTC)The overarching story is about a character recovering and what happens around him and how his friends help him and react to different stages of his recovery. I thought it like there's a fic that focuses on his friendship with the other characters one by one and then what relationships these other characters have with each other romantic and platonic.
...I probably didn't need to explain this much but anyway...

Date: 2023-01-03 10:45 am (UTC)I only have 9 so far, and I'm going very slowly (not having a deadline does that to me :D), but I'm thinking I might post updates when I post them to my journal (at most monthly, very likely less)? But I could also do separate posts here based on the number of icons (maybe at least 10? Or 25?).
(no subject)
Date: 2023-01-03 02:25 pm (UTC)3+ icons seem perfectly reasonable for a batch to me, so just post as you wish - 3 or 5 or 10 or 20 or 25, or just monthly updates, as you said. They can also be as irregular as you want as well - if you just want to post out loud (as it were) when you've had a burst of inspiration, no need to wait on a schedule or anything. Equally, if you work best with a schedule and set numbers to aim for, you can set yourself that and work to it.
That most unhelpful of answers, sorry - it's very much up to you. <3

Date: 2023-06-01 03:14 pm (UTC)Are incestuous relationships (I've been trying to stay away from this one for obvious reasons), and toxic ships allowed? Because there were a couple of angsty prompts I was thinking of doing for some of these, but the ship would not be a happy romantic one, or friendship. Ie, one of the characters would be interrogating or abusing another one. If this is not allowed as a "ship", then that is completely fine. I have plenty of material to work with with platonic, bromances, romances, and healthy familial relationships. I just wanted to ask and clarify before I write any toxic ships on my list.
Re: Question
Date: 2023-06-01 05:37 pm (UTC)Should you be posting the whole work directly to the comm for any reason, you must also use a cut (with header/info above it so people can see it before they click) and don't forget to alter the Age Restriction box on the post to "Age 18+" on anything explicit or with mature/dark themes etc. (It's not the default setting because most of our posts are just links anyway and the 18+ setting plays havoc with accessibility, so it's best just to let users select it when and if they want it.)
I trust that helps? And thanks for asking! <3

Date: 2023-09-18 03:50 pm (UTC)If I write a shipfic for A/B and C/D can I write a genfic for A & B & C & D focusing on their (canon) friendship, but have A/B and C/D feature in the background?
Similarly if I write an E/F shipfic would a D & E & F genfic count as a separate entry? Then E & F & G afterwards?
Probably important context: the fandom is a sports manga and the characters get shuffled around in small teams quite a lot in canon, and each group has their own dynamic. Platonic team bonding fan content is pretty popular, but they often still feature shippy stuff in the background. I can totally forgo the bg romantic ships, but I'd really like to write the various team platonic ships! Some teams are even named after colors ("Team [color]") in canon.
(Using these 7 characters other canon teams are A & B & F, C & D & E, A & D & F, D & F & G)
(no subject)
Date: 2023-09-18 07:29 pm (UTC)Yes, as long as the focus is on the A & B & C & D ship, that's fine.
And, yep, to the next - as long as you keep adding in or swapping round a character so it's a different combination, it counts as a new ship.
Good luck - I hope you have fun with the challenge!

b) My understanding is if you use couple A/B for prompt #1, that means if you want to continue to prompt #2, you should pick another ship, correct? Does it have to be completely new (C/D) or is multishipping allowed (B/C)?
c) Do you have to do all the 100 prompts?
Thank you so much, sorry to bother you :)

If you would like to join in with the community in any way, or might choose to do so in the future, then:
a) Yes, art is allowed - all kinds of fanworks are welcome!
You do not have to post to the AO3 collection. For the community, I actually prefer people not to post their works directly here - just to link back to wherever they have posted them (if they choose to). (There's a header you can c+p to use for that in this post, but that's optional too - as long as you include all the same kind of information in your linking post, that's fine - i.e. Fandom, ship, prompt used, and either Choose Not To Warn or add any appropriate ratings/Content notes/warnings so people know what to expect at the link.)
The lowest level of interaction is simply to work through the prompts alone, then link back to the completed table here on this post to get an achievement banner.
You can also choose to link works here individually, or in batches, if you'd like other members to be able to see your work - whichever members prefer is completely fine.
If you're new to Dreamwidth and puzzled by tagging - I am usually around and will take care of tags, no problem. (You can add existing tags if you're happy to do so, that's great, but only a mod can make new ones - Dreamwidth has only a limited no of tags.)
b) Yes, you can multi-ship; you just can't repeat the exact same pairing without adding at least 1 new character to the mix.
c) The aim is ultimately to the complete the table, but 100 prompts is a lot! There is an achievement banner for people who complete it, but absolutely no penalty for anyone who doesn't. I am pretty slow at these things myself - I always think that if they inspire any fanworks at all, they've done their job, really.
(You do also have the option to swap out up to 10 prompts if you wish to do so - the only caveat is that the new prompts must also be colour names like the rest, and that you want to watch out you don't accidentally pick a duplicate prompt.)
I hope that helps, but if you are just after taking the table for your own purposes, then you can ignore the vast majority of this reply!
I hope you have fun however you choose to approach the table and the comm. Good luck! ♥

Date: 2024-08-17 05:01 pm (UTC)With WIPs, works should be created for the challenge and complete in themselves (although works in linked series etc. are fine). So any unposted WIPs, or ones that have only had fragments posted, started v recently, or only been posted in rough/informally somewhere semi-private, anything like that - these are absolutely fine.
If the WIP has a sizeable proprtion of the whole posted in final form on AO3 (or similar), then it can't really count for this particular challenge. Ditto individual segments/chapters of a work can't count as fills in themselves - only the whole work.
I hope that makes sense? Where any cases are borderline, it's totally your call.
I hope that makes sense, and isn't too frustrating if your WIPs are already half-posted ones. (I felt sure I'd seen a comm specifically for finishing WIPs round here lately, and was going to link you in case it'd help - but I couldn't find one that had been dusted off in less than 10 years, so perhaps it was on tumblr, in which case, lol.)
