Welcome to
100ships, a multifandom challenge comm where the aim is to create 100 different fanworks featuring 100 different relationships.

All types & categories of ships are welcome. There are no claims and no time limit on the challenge. Just copy the table to somewhere convenient and get started.
This is shamelessly based on
100fandoms and
51pluscrossoverfandoms (writing challenges), but all fanworks are welcome.
You don't need a Dreamwidth account. There is an AO3 collection for posting, and anon commenting is on here for any questions & announcing completion. If you want an account in order to post, it's free to sign-up.
Anyone who completes the challenge will receive a banner.
Rules
1. Copy/post the table to somewhere convenient to you, create fanworks for each prompt and have fun multi-shipping. There are no minimums and maximums. As long as your work is complete and comprehensible and visible/audible, it counts. You can write in any language (although the info in the linking post here should be in English).
2. Be kind. No hatespeech, harassment, trolling or ship/character bashing. (If writing RPF, please be sensitive - i.e. avoid non-famous/underage living people or serial killers/war criminals etc. current/within living memory etc.)
3. Post your work wherever you usually do and link back here to the work. Please use header info (e.g. Creator, Pairing, Fandom, Title, ratings, Summary, Notes/Warnings & prompt used). There's a template below, but you can use the AO3 share feature instead or any similar formatting that you prefer.
You can add existing fandom and prompt tags to your entry when posting. Mods will create new tags for you as needed.

Guidelines
♥ All types, ratings, categories of ships are welcome, romantic, platonic, queerplatonic, slash, femslash, het, poly, gen, familial, friendship, canonical, non-canonical, crossover, crack, rare pairs, randomised pairings, juggernauts, RPF, etc. etc.. It's up to you!
♥ Each fill must be created for the challenge and focus on a different ship using a different combination of canon characters each time. You can't create for the same character combination twice, even if one is platonic and the other romantic, or the second is an AU.
♥ You can ship canon characters with OCs if you choose, although only once per character (i.e. you can write A/OC, but not also A/Another OC or A/OC/OC, but you can use B/OC, C/OC.) Minor characters, mentioned/implied characters or widely accepted in the fandom fanon/canon OCs count as regular canonical characters.
♥ Same-actor character combinations are fine and count as different pairings, as do canonical alternate versions of characters. (A/B and A/B's Evil Clone count as separate ships, as does A/B, A/B's Evil Clone/B.) Versions of characters across adaptations would count as separate.
♥ Approach the table however you want - write any mix of pairings you like! You could combine it with
100fandoms and write your 100 OTPs from 100 different fandoms, or 100 pairings from one fandom, 100 crossover pairings, 100 randomly generated pairings or requests, 100 different pairings involving your favourite character, or your OTP + 99 different additional poly options, or any sort of variation you please. It's up to you.
♥ Prompts can be interpreted as widely as you choose, and you can combine them with any other prompts, challenges, fests, bingos you like (as long as the other fest also allows it).
100 Ships Prompt Table
Table code for claims:
♥ Part of the fun of challenges like these is working through the same prompts together, but if a prompt or prompts is distressing to you or you would prefer some creator's choice options, you can just replace it/them. (Up to 10 max.)
The prompts are taken from colour names, so select a new one from a colour list like this. Swap the prompt(s) out on your table before you start writing, and stick to the swapped version you've chosen. (Don't forget to check you haven't picked a duplicate prompt!)
When posting fills written for swapped prompts use the tag: "prompt: creator's choice".
If you have any other queries, please ask here or contact the mod via PM. Anon commenting is on.

Oh, just one question: how often can we post to the comm? Just any time we make progress on the table (unless we'd be spamming, obviously)?

Yes, exactly. Any time you create a fill, link back here, or if you're doing them quite quickly, in small batches would be fine (or if anyone prefers that).
(no subject)
Date: 2021-07-13 03:22 am (UTC)-The Doctor from Doctor Who; do Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose count as different ships or can they only appear once as Doctor/Rose?
-Character A/Character B, but we've seen versions of them in parallel universes? And maybe mix-and-match Character A/version of character B from ep-X?
-One of the characters gets-replaced by a not quite exact cope of themselves? Are A/original-B and A/new-B the same or different relationships?
-Different fictional versions of real people? Say you want to write John/Abigail Adams from 1776 and the John Adams mini-series?
-Different versions of characters across adaptations? Either classics characters that have been greatly reinterpreted (are Elizabeth/Darcy from the novel the same ship as in The Lizzie Bennett Diaries?) or say comic book characters that have been adapted a few different times in movies/shows/cartoons (can you write Lois Lane/Clark Kent from the Arrowverse, Smallville, Lois & Clark, the animated series, and the Snyderverse as separate ships or are they the same?)
-What about in-canon major resets? pre/post Crisis? New 52?
(the last is definitely the least relevant to me, but it is worth saying with the rest of these)
(no subject)
Date: 2021-07-13 07:58 am (UTC)So, yes, if the different versions of the characters are canonical - the Doctor's incarnations, parallel universe versions, clones - then they are canonically separate characters.
If they're not canonical, they can't count as a separate character.
The same character appearing in different parts of the same universe as the same character (all Arrowverse shows, or DW/SJA/Torchwood) is just one character and can't count separately.
What about in-canon major resets? pre/post Crisis? New 52?
That sort of thing I can't really answer, because it varies hugely across different fandoms - so, if the fandom generally treats such things as entirely different canonical characters, then that's fine. If they usually treat them as the same character, then they won't count twice.
Adaptations count as separate fandoms (although participants, of course, can avoid them personally if they feel they're too similar to count in their case(s)).
ETA: Sorry about all the editing - I hadn't thought about the adaptations thing and went back and forth a bit!

Date: 2021-07-13 08:01 am (UTC)Questionsss (I wonder if this has been answered)
Date: 2021-07-13 08:48 am (UTC)So I know some fandoms have different canonical versions of characters.
For example, I write for the FF8 fandom and Squall Leonhart is present there as well as in the Dissidia Final Fantasy universe (along with a handful of other main protags and antagonists) and Kingdom Hearts (much older than both. Would it be acceptable to use two different versions of this character (and other characters that have different versions of themselves) but obviously pair them with the people present in that universe?
Alternatively, how is this challenge going to handle entries from Final Fantasy 7? Will the original compilation of FF7 be treated separately from the Remake (because these are two different canons and different characterizations) or will they be combined?
Re: Questionsss (I wonder if this has been answered)
Date: 2021-07-13 09:15 am (UTC)I'm a little unclear on this paragraph so bear with me, but:
If these are separate/different versions of the same character in each different fandom, then, yes, they would count as a new canonical character each time, as long as that's how you and the fandom(s) in question regards them. (Which I think is what you were asking?)
If these characters appear in different fandoms as the same character, then they count as the one canonical character here, too. You can of course use them in all the fandoms they appear in with anyone you like; just not in a repeat pairing. (Multiverse and crossover pairings are very welcome here!)
As to specific fandom quirks & issues - that really is up to you as to how you (and/or the fandom) would usually treat those characters. If that's as separate characters (which is what it sounds like here) then, yes, absolutely, treat them in the same way for this challenge. And if not, then not.
I hope that helps.

Date: 2021-07-18 05:19 pm (UTC)(1) What about co-authors? I do pretty much all my writing with my partner lately.
(2) What about wider group collaborations? Specifically, X-wing pilot fandom is basically one Discord server; I've taken the liberty of linking your tumblr signal boost post there and suggesting that we could all work together to reach 100 different ships. Is that something that could formally count for the bingo, or would that be more just side shenanigans?
(no subject)
Date: 2021-07-18 07:22 pm (UTC)I think if you want to do it as a whole Discord team, though, that would have to be sort of extra side shenanigans, but I also think that's wonderful and does sound like fun! And even if it's not "official" (i.e. not eligible for a banner at the end!), you can still post all your works to the AO3 collection anyway.
I hope that helps? Anyway, I hope Team X-Wing Discord has fun with it in some way that works for you all. <3

Date: 2021-08-10 11:52 am (UTC)Also, supposing that I complete the table and then want to try doing the challenge again, would it be okay to repeat ships as long as I create brand new fills for each of them? Or would you prefer only different character combinations for each attempt?
Finally, I understand that we cannot use AU versions of an already used ship (so, it's definitely *not* okay to create a fill for Harry/Draco and then another for muggle!Harry/veela!Draco). I get it. But can we still create AU fills as long as they don't involve repeated character combinations? Or are AUs completely off-limits here?
Sorry for asking too many questions, but I just want to make sure that I won't be breaking any rules accidentaly. Thank you!
(no subject)
Date: 2021-08-10 12:14 pm (UTC)1. Yes it's perfectly okay to post all fills in one batch, if that's what you prefer, and linking to the masterpost would be fine.
2. You can do the table as many times as you like, should you want to.
3. AUs are perfectly welcome in themselves, it's only the repeating of the ship that isn't. I don't mind whether you write an AU for each of your 100 selected ships, or canon-compliant or whatever; just that they are 100 different ships overall.
I hope that's all clear? And good luck!

Date: 2021-08-27 09:50 am (UTC)So, you have your 4 (soon to be 5!) fills ready at AO3. Go into the first work, click the share button on the top right and & copy the coding from the text box it gives you.
Open up a new post here at
Then c+p the AO3 coding into the post (but switch to html editor first or the code just comes out as code). Repeat for each work and then click the post button at the bottom. (There's a preview function so you can check the formatting came out all right before you post.) No need to worry about tags unless you want to - they're v basic here, and I can add them with my modly powers.
If any of that is still a bit weird right now, it's fine to just link back in the comments here to record your progress, or to simply post to AO3 and then let me know here when you've done. (Posting to the comm is great and you are very welcome to do so, but it is optional if you'd prefer not to.)
If for any reason, the above doesn't work out and you do want to post to the comm, I could always make your first works post for you until you've got the hang of it, if you give me the links. But it isn't as complicated as writing all that out made it sound - I'm sure once you've poked about a bit and worked out where the functions are, you'll be fine!
If you don't want to use the AO3 share feature, there's an example posting template above you could use as a header instead - c+p, fill in the relevant details for each fanwork & paste in the link; rinse and repeat. I find the AO3 share feature is quicker for me, but whichever works best for you!
I hope that makes sense? If you've any further questions, just ask. (I also find that if I don't know how to do things on Dreamwidth, googling "how to do x on Dreamwidth" usually gets me straight to their instructions as well, if that's helpful on general site things as you get used to it.) ♥

Date: 2021-12-21 12:35 am (UTC)Is selfcest allowed? I see that you've noted A/B's Evil Clone is permitted and I do have vague musings of taking full advantage of that by doing both Joker/Reika and Joker/Bad End Beauty haha, thank you. But what about A/Slightly Different Version of A? Though not the ship I have in mind for this question but just to keep the examples in a tight bundle, would Reika/Bad End Beauty (her canonical evil clone) or Reika/Cure Beauty (her superheroine alterego) be valid ships for the prompt fill?
Also, if I write a fic about A/B with minor/mentioned implications of A/C, would that rule out A/C as an elligible ship for me to write by technicality? Like for example, I wrote minor Yuri/Yuzu as a sub-ship to the main ship that my my prompt fill for Gold was for (Reiji/Yuzu) so does that mean Yuri/Yuzu is now inelligible if I did it as a main ship?
BTW I will totally understand if you don't get to these questions until after the holiday period ^^; (and I hope you have a good one at that!)
(no subject)
Date: 2021-12-21 08:33 am (UTC)1. Selfcest is a different ship, so yes! Probably repeated self-cest for the same character wouldn't be on (unless the other selves are canonical, as with clones etc. etc. above), but, yes, seems fine!
2. No, if the ship you are writing for the challenge and where the focus of your fanwork lies is A/B then having some A/C or mentions of it certainly doesn't rule it out of the challenge at all.
I hope that helps!

Date: 2022-01-29 07:40 am (UTC)Example: Mass Effect. The main character is some variation of an individual collectively known as Commander Shepard, but the player can create them and customize a lot about them, give them a unique name and personality and so on. However the game’s plot is generally the same (or at least has the same options.) So if I wanted to write a version of S with character A, and then again with Character B, would that be allowed?
I can give more examples if needed (pretty much any MMORPG fandom, for instance, would apply.) Just trying to understand how this works with the rules for OCs. Thanks!
